a chili winter night

We’re no Julie/Julia but when roomie and I put our heads (and ingredients) together in the kitchen, the end result is always delicious

Tonights collaboration? Some hearty turkey chili

There are countless ways to dumb down the recipe to the basics but we love the act of adding ingredients so here’s what we’re working with

  • diced jalepeno (the heat is in the seeds so remove seeds to taste)
  • BEANS, the magical fruit, 1 can of dark red kidney beans, 1 can of navy beans (which are actually white, not navy)
  • ground turkey
  • 24 ounce can of diced tomatoes
  • 8 ounce can of tomato sauce
  • chopped carrots- about half a cup
  • 1 large onion
  • ground cumin
  • oregano
  • chili powder

1) Heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add chopped
up onions, cook for about 2 minutes. Then add spices and ground turkey

2) Add diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and diced jalepeno.
Then add carrots. Bring to a boil with cover on pot.

3) After it comes to a boil, turn heat down to simmer. Leave on simmer
for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.

4) Rinse beans under cold water. Add beans to pot and leave for 10
minutes.

5) Serve and enjoy!

We served over lettuce with a dollop of sour cream. bon appetit!

Jackie and I consulted my new Epicurious iphone app to seek out some recipe inspiration
The outcome: dill chicken paillard, roasted cauliflower, and an arugula salad with artichokes, fresh parmesan, and tomato
Links to the epicurious recipes are provided below. (Note: we opted not to add the tomatoes to the chicken and the olives to the cauliflower)
